Bryn Shander is the biggest of the Ten Towns and is known for being a trading center in Icewind Dale.[4]

Geography[]

The city is the only one if the Ten Towns not located on the lake shores of Maer Dualdon, Redwaters, or Lac Dinneshere.[1] The Eastway connects the city to the town of Easthaven in the east.[5]

The City Hill sits just outside the wall to the northeast of the city.[6]

Defenses[]

The circular walled town itself is placed upon a hill, with snowy plains stretching in all directions.[7] The city has three gates: north, south, and east. During war time, residents of cities east of Bryn Shander often take refuge within the city walls.[6]

History[]

Pre-Spellplague In 1351 DR, the Ten Towns were attacked by the barbarians of Icewind Dale and with the aide of Drizzt Do'Urden and Bruenor Battlehammer, the horde was defeated at the gates of Bryn Shander.[3] Around 1356 DR, Bryn Shander was under the leadership of spokesman Cassius.[8]

Post-Spellplague The drow Tiago Baenre defeated the returned demon Errtu on a plain outside the city, endearing himself to the city. A statue of him now stands in commemoration of that event.[9][10]
